An atmospheric fishing village found just a few kilometers from Funchal.

Despite the new development spreading around the village the main attraction is still the central section of the village with its cluster of shops and bars around a stony beach which doubles as a natural harbor.

Câmara de Lobos was made famous by the paintings of Wlinston Churchill and its pleasant, mild temperature found all year around.

This village was named after the monk seals (lobos) that were found here when first settled by Gonçalves Zarco. The second oldest fisherman's chapel, Nossa Senhora da Conceição, is found on the left of the harbor and is worth having a look at. It is said that the Câmara de Lobos is one of the poorest villages on the island.

Some places of interests are:

Pico da Torre, Curral das Freiras, Boca dos Namorados, Boca da Corricla and Cabo Girão ( the second highest cliff in the world which offers some breathtaking views).

Câmara de Lobos is also well known by the locals for its “poncha” which is available at most of the local bars.
